About Sandy Clay Co.

HOW IT STARTED

I am what many call a “serial hobbyist”- I try just about every creative hobby I can get my hands on, get super invested for about two weeks, then eventually burn out or forget about it. When I took my first college ceramics class, I figured it would be the same. What I soon came to realize was how much I truly loved and enjoyed the craft. From learning different hand building techniques to teaching myself the wheel, I was fully invested. By the time I was taking ceramics for the third semester in a row and declaring it as my minor, I knew I was roped in. My professor and mentor encouraged me to join local makers markets, where I found so much joy in sharing my experiences and my passion with others. Since then, I’ve been working nonstop to continue sharing my love for ceramics with others!

My Studio

HOW IT STARTED

For the last two and a half years I had been working out of my school’s ceramics studio, but knew that once graduation came I would have to find some way to take this hobby and little business of mine back to San Diego with me. After selling at numerous makers markets and community events, I had finally saved up enough money to start buying my own equipment. Following many talks with my parents, they agreed to build the CUTEST green shed in their backyard for me to work out of (thanks mom and dad!). Since moving home, I have been in my shed every day, working until late hours of the night, programming my own kiln, and learning everything I can about the craft and my own artistic voice. My favorite part about it all is having my sweet labrador lay out there with me while I’m working!
